Painting demo tackles ‘Clouds & Skies’

Things are looking up.

Literally.

Sunsets, storm clouds, fantasy skies and more aerial art are the subjects of an online workshop to be taught by Kari Feuer and presented by Port Townsend School of the Arts later this month.

Students in the class will experiment with shape and color. The workshop includes demonstrations and rules to keep in mind, as well, and participants will use photographs of skies that they will paint together. A supply list will also be offered for painters.

The workshop is 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 15; the cost is $70, with a 10 percent discount available to members.

Feuer paints in oils with a palette knife, both abstractly and representationally. She grew up in the Pacific Northwest but called New York’s Hudson Valley home for decades. Her work has been shown in many galleries in the Northeast, collected on three continents and received national recognition.

In 2015 and 2016, Feuer did painting residencies at Centrum and said she cherishes her periodic returns to the Northwest.

The workshop will be available through the videoconferencing platform Zoom. After registration, participants will receive details about how to log in via email.

There are also six openings available for private 30-minute consultations (also via Zoom) with Feuer, and the participant should email her some images of their work ahead of time. (There is an additional $30 fee for this option.)
