The American Legion Marvin G. Shields Memorial Post 26, Bruce F. Matheson Post 7948, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and BPOE (Elks) Lodge 317, Port Townsend will be conducting honor ceremonies at local cemeteries on Memorial Day with the aid of local Scout troops.

At each of four cemeteries on Monday, May 30, the organizations will lay floral tributes, post colors, and present a gun salute and “Taps.” The public is welcome to come and pay their respects to all veterans who are resting in local cemeteries.

The day will begin at 9 a.m. Monday at the Fort Worden Military Cemetery, followed by Laurel Grove at 9:45, St. Mary’s Star of the Sea at 10:15, and Chimacum at 11. (The times for Laurel Grove, St. Mary’s and Chimacum are approximate.)

Following these ceremonies, those interested are welcome to visit the American Legion Hall in Port Townsend for a short concert by the Port Townsend Summer Band from
11:30 a.m. to noon, followed by a brief program. The hall is at 209 Monroe St.

Finally, the groups will lay a floral tribute on the waters at Pope Marine Park, to be followed by an invitation to a buffet sandwich and salad luncheon at the Legion Hall. Organizers note that all are welcome.
