Election Day has turned into a good night for incumbents.
Jefferson County Sheriff Joe Nole was on his way to winning another four-year term and was leading in the first vote tally announced for the 2022 General Election.
Nole was in front with 67.78 percent of all ballots counted so far.
Art Frank, a fellow Democrat looking to unseat Nole, had 31.55 percent of the vote, according to early, unofficial returns.
The first tally gave 9,721 votes to Nole, and 4,525 votes to Frank.
A total of 14,342 ballots have been counted so far.
Nole was favored to win the race for sheriff, having emerged from the 2022 Primary Election in August with 71 percent of the vote, while Frank had 27 percent.
The next vote tally is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 9.
