Demonstrators carry a banner while standing in the roadway at the Trigger Avenue entrance gate to Naval Base Kitsap-Bangor on Monday, Aug. 10. U.S. Navy ballistic missile submarines are based at Bangor on Hood Canal. Some 11 demonstrators were cited and released; one twice. Among them were Douglas Milholland, 66, of Port Townsend, Brenda McMillan, 81, of Port Townsend and Ann "Kit" Kittredge, 57, of Quilcene. The demonstration opposed the potential expansion of the Trident nuclear weapons system and commemorated the 70th anniversary of the atomic bombings of Japan.
