Nine more Jefferson County residents have tested positive for COVID-19, public health officials announced late Thursday.

The cumulative total of coronavirus cases in the county hit 250 on Jan. 7.

The new cases reported Thursday were mostly mid-county residents; a man in his 50s, a man in his 60s, a woman in her 60s, a woman in her 20s, and three females under the age of 20.

One case involved a Port Townsend woman in her 60s, and the last, a female in south county under the age of 20.

The large number of new coronavirus cases has made mid-county the area with the most infections since the start of the pandemic; Port Townsend previously had that distinction.

A total of 41 residents were still awaiting COVID-19 test results late Thursday.

Health officials also said 31 people with COVID-19 remain in isolation.

County health officials reported Jan. 7 that 198 residents in the county have recovered from COVID-19. A total of 20 residents have been hospitalized after getting the coronavirus, and one death in Jefferson County has been attributed to the disease since the start of the pandemic. 

According to Jefferson County Public Health, a total of 16,063 tests have been administered for the coronavirus since the start of the pandemic, and 15,722 tests have come back negative.

Through Thursday, 111 COVID cases have been found in Port Townsend residents; 114 in mid-county residents; and 25 in south county (Quilcene, Brinnon, and West Jefferson).

Slightly more females than males have tested positive for COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic in Jefferson County; 129 females have been confirmed with the coronavirus, and 121 males.
