Jefferson County is planning to make improvements for a lower parking lot at the county jail.
The county hopes to install covered vehicle ports to the parking lot, and as a first step, sod near the corrections center will be removed and a crushed granite surface will be installed.
The new parking area on the east side of the building will measure 100 feet by 120 feet, and officials note the storage area will better protect the sheriff’s office boats and emergency response vehicle.
Shold Excavating is expected to be awarded a contract for the work, and the board of commissioners was scheduled to review the contract at its meeting this week.
The work is expected to cost $17,537 and the funding will come from the county’s Construction and Renovation Fund.
