The Port Townsend School Board appointed Simon Little to a vacant position on the board at its last meeting.
The decision came after the board interviewed three applicants for the post, including Toby Paterson and Annie Bartos.
The candidates were each asked five questions, including why they wanted to join the board, and what they thought the role of a board member should be.
Little, whose four children are students in Port Townsend schools, said the role of a school board member was to be a sounding board for the community.
“In my role professionally, a big part of my job is to take a lot of information and organize it in a way that it can be better understood and evaluated, and then parse that out into sequential steps in order to reach an end goal or achievement. I think that skill set is applicable in an environment like this,” Little said.
Little will be sworn in at the June 22 board meeting.
He will hold this position until the District 2 elections in November, for which he has already filed.
