Port Ludlow’s newest preschool, Mrs. Moug’s Empty Nest, is coming to the marine inlet south of the Quimper Peninsula this September.
The focus of Mrs. Mougs’ Empty Nest is to provide a safe, loving, and nurturing learning environment for developing children
The preschool is owned and operated by Ludlow community members Gayle and Guy Moug at their family home on Swansonville Hill.
The couple have been active members of the community for the last 50 years. Together they have raised six children, with four of which graduating from Chimacum High School.
More than 1,200 square feet of land is devoted to the preschool in the couple’s 1930s farmhouse.
The couple noted their five-acre mini-farm has plenty of room for outside adventures and is complete with cows, chickens, and gardens. The property is fenced and gated for safety and security with 4-foot-wide sidewalks surrounding the house for avid big wheelers and bike riders. Additionally, there is a large play area with swings, slides, and tunnels.
The school’s mission is to provide families in the community with a safe, loving, and nurturing learning environment for their preschool-aged children.
Guy Moug is retired after running a dry-wall company for 45 years, and Gayle Moug has spent the last 23 years working as a kindergarten paraeducator for the Chimacum School District.
She will be utilizing her teaching experience to help students with letters, sounds, and numbers, while her husband’s extensive coaching experience will be used to introduce the students to sports and other forms of physical education.
School will be in session Sept. 13 through June 2, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
Applications are being accepted for 3- to 5-year-olds, but class size is limited.
