New commandments, and one for good luck | Letter to the editor

Maybe we, humanity, originally needed the parental Ten Commandments. I don’t know.

But what if, say 1,000 years ago, someone went up a beautiful mountain and received instruction something like this? Would history have evolved differently?

1. All life is sacred. Respect and honor all life.

2. The earth is your sacred home. Respect, nurture, and cherish it.

3. The earth is limited in size and bountifulness. Keep that in mind when considering having children.

4. Your body is wondrous. Respect, nurture, and cherish it.

5. Your wholeness consists of five parts: physical, emotional, mental, intuitive, and spiritual. Respect, nurture, and cherish each one.

6. Life is a series of choices (decisions, opinions, solutions). Gather information, then listen to your gut, your heart, and your inner-knowing for your answers.

7. Respect, nurture, and cherish your deepest desires. They are clues to the true meaning and direction of your life.

8. Discover, nurture, and use your special gifts and talents.

9. Carefully consider your thoughts, your words, and your actions. They contain power and energy.

10. Work. Play. Contemplate. Relax.

11. (One for good luck.) Reality is relative and subjective. Honor and respect the variations.
