What is the most common question a visitor asks a local?

"Where is a good place to eat?"

Aside from offering your personal opinion, what's the best reply?

"Check out the Leader's 'Best Foods' contest story in the annual Getaway guide."

Here is your chance to contribute to our 20th annual Best Foods list, recognizing restaurants and other food-related businesses in Port Townsend and Jefferson County.

It's an unscientific poll: You vote for 'em, we count 'em.

There are 18 categories. Many establishments are eligible in more than one category.

Leader staff especially encourages readers to help recognize businesses that have opened within the past year.

If you've "discovered" a great new place to eat, let's hear about it.

Winning businesses receive and display awards to acknowledge local, loyal patrons and new customers visiting from outside the community. The winners are listed in the Leader's 2016 Getaway visitors guide.

VOTING RULES

There are two ways to vote:

• Use the original ballot, which is published in the Leader's Oct. 7 and Oct. 14 editions. No photocopies allowed. One ballot per person, please. At least 12 of the 18 categories need to be filled out for the ballot to count.

• Voteonline.Usethelink on our website home page: ptleader.com. The Survey Monkey system is intended to allow one vote per computer IP address.

The print-edition ballots are the only paper ballots eligible; photocopies are not counted. Drop them off or mail them to Best Foods, The Leader, 226 Adams St., Port Townsend, WA 98368.

Voting ends at 5 p.m., Friday, Oct. 23. Winners are named in our Nov. 11 edition.

While this survey may be a fair and fun way to judge popularity, we recognize the hard work and dedication of everyone in the food and beverage services, ballot favorite or not. From Brinnon to Discovery Bay, Port Townsend to Port Ludlow, Chimacum and Port Hadlock to Quilcene, we are fortunate to have such a varied selection of eateries from which to choose.

Now, please eat local, and vote!
