A security training exercise will be held on Naval Magazine Indian Island on Tuesday, Jan. 10, the Navy has announced.
The drill will take place near the installation’s main gate, and boats will also be near the pier’s security barrier. Scenarios for the training exercise will include the use of blank ammunition, loud sirens, and bright blue flashing lights.
The training may prompt the temporary closure of the main gate for a short period of time, according to the Navy, but the shutdown is not expected to have a significant traffic impact in the area.
Residents in the communities surrounding Indian Island, as well as installation personnel, may notice increased noise levels and activities associated with training activities. Announcements will also be broadcasted from the base’s loudspeaker notification system during the exercise.
The Navy routinely conducts similar types of security exercises at installations across the world to guarantee readiness and verify response procedures.
