Museum’s series returns with fire focus

Posted

The Jefferson County Historical Society’s First Friday Speaker Series is back for the fall, starting with a history of Port Townsend’s Bell Tower with a now-retired member of East Jefferson Fire Rescue.

Coinciding with the fire department’s upcoming 150-year celebration in October, the speaker series will hone in on the fire rescue’s history, fire ecology, fire safety, and of course, fire itself.

“The History of the Bell Tower & Fire Alarm Systems with Ted Krysinski” will kick off the series and highlight the unique, historical structure in Uptown Port Townsend.

The event is set for 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 2.

Additionally, “Wildland Firefighting with Amanda Monthei” will arrive in October; “Fire Prevention with Jordan Pollack” will be hosted in November; and December will be rounded out with “Traditional Ecological Knowledge in Fire Ecology and Management with Dr. Ernesto Alvarado.”

In-person attendance for the speaker series events will be limited to 35 people with proof of COVID vaccination required, and all programs will be live-streamed via the Northwest Maritime Center.
