Buddhist teacher Steve Armstrong leads a free dharma talk 7-9 p.m., Friday, Oct. 3, and an all-day meditation retreat 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 4 at the Port Townsend Yacht Club, 2503 Washington St. There is a $20 registration fee for the Saturday retreat.
Armstrong is the cofounder and guiding teacher, along with partner Kamala Masters, of the Vipassana Metta Foundation on the island of Maui, Hawai‘i. Armstrong has practiced Vipassana (insight meditation) since 1975. He was a monk in Burma for five years, and he served as the executive director of the Insight Meditation Society in Barre, Massachusetts, for many years; it is regarded as one of the oldest meditation centers in the Western world.
