Jack McKay has resigned his seat on the Chimacum School Board.
McKay stepped down at the end of last week’s board meeting.
In his resignation letter, McKay said an upcoming move out of the school district was the reason for his departure.
“Because we are moving from our home in Port Ludlow, it is necessary that I resign from my position of representing District 5 on the Chimacum School Board,” McKay wrote.
McKay, a former superintendent for both the Sequim and Selah school districts, was elected to the school board in November 2017. His term was set to expire at the end of 2021.
Under existing board policy, the school board will call for applications for people interested in filling the vacant position.
Candidate interviews will follow in a session open to the public, and the new board member will serve until the next regularly scheduled board election.
McKay, 82, shared much praise for those he’d met during his time on the board.
“During my three years on the school board, it has been an honor and privilege to meet so many patrons, parents, students, teachers, staff and administrators of the Chimacum Schools,” McKay wrote in his resignation letter. “I will continue to be an advocate of the Chimacum Schools, since I truly believe it is one of the outstanding school districts in the state.”
