Majority of council seeks re-election

Posted

All four members of the Port Townsend City Council who have terms ending this year have filed as candidates for another term.

Mayor David Faber and fellow councilmembers Amy Howard, Monica MickHager, and Owen Rowe registered as candidates for the November election on Monday, the first day of Candidate Filing Week.

Candidates have until Friday, May 19 to register to run.

“I’m running to continue my work to deliver on affordable housing, fixing our roads and infrastructure, and making our city work for future generations,” Faber wrote in an email to The Leader.

“We’ve had some big successes over the last four years, from working with city staff and my council colleagues on the purchase and preliminary visioning of our affordable and workforce housing project at Evans Vista, to authorizing tiny houses on wheels and second ADUs throughout Port Townsend, to investing nearly $1 million in road repairs in 2023, to securing a long-term financial agreement with the Port Townsend Paper Mill to ensure we have potable water for the next century,” he added.

“Though I’m excited about the things we have accomplished, there remains far more work to be done. So many of our residents are struggling to be able to stay here. I want to deliver for them. We need a community that is accessible and affordable for all who want to make Port Townsend their home,” Faber said.

Faber, Howard, MickHager, and Rowe were all elected in 2019, and each is running to retain their current position on the council.
