The Leader has written two stories (July 24 and Aug. 21) about Crystal Cox’s slanderous ethics complaint, and legal processing, against someone I have immense respect and affection for, Port Townsend Mayor David Faber.

Besides a brief mention that she is a “controversial figure” who has filed many other complaints against local officials, this ongoing story has not been accompanied by much context. The paper’s summary of this latest broadside makes it seem far more plausible than reality would have it. Not long after, I heard an educated, intelligent man I respect say that her allegations had confirmed his pre-existing concerns about David Faber’s character.

I think then, it’s worth mentioning that Crystal Cox is a far-right, chronically delusional conspiracy theorist. A recent X post of hers proclaimed, “Witches FOR Trump.” Another endorsed the neo-fascist Proud Boys, saying, “I have met more loving and supportive Proud Boys, and Gay and Lesbians associated with the Proud Boys that are nice to me, respectful to me, listen to me, love me, then 12 years in the most liberal town I have every lived in.”

In 2013 a Massachusetts judge dryly noted — before dismissing her suit — that a complaint she filed against 65 defendants was, “not entirely legible or organized,” “repetitive,” “set forth in [a] rambling narrative,” and that her claims were “virtually impossible to organize and discern in any meaningful way.”

Given what can be found out about her through a quick internet search, I hope others don’t fall into the same trap and give credence to her latest deranged harangue against a moral man who is deeply committed to the public interest.

Try sending him a critical but friendly email, or cordially approach him on the street, you’ll find he’s a pretty swell guy!
