The Jefferson County Library District Winter Giving Campaign is focused on funding a solar energy project.
In addition to reducing fossil fuel use and increasing energy resiliency within District facilities, adding solar panels to feed energy needs will reduce the District’s energy costs by 50 percent or more, according to Dr. Tamara R. Meredith, Director.
“That’s thousands of dollars per year that can instead be used for books, technology, programs and other resources used by the entire community,” Meredith wrote.
The estimated cost for a full solar installation is $250,000. According to Meredith, the library board of trustees has designated $100,000 from the capital fund toward the project, so the goal is to raise the remaining $150,000 and complete the project by the end of 2024.
“It’s ambitious, but we are convinced that our community’s generosity will help us get there. Please consider making a year-end gift to help us achieve our solar energy goal,” Meredith said.
