Port Townsend Public Library’s director Melody Sky Weaver will recount her time spent on a Swedish reality show at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 2 in the Carnegie Reading Room of the library.
In 2021, Weaver starred on the Swedish reality television show “Allt för Sverige” (known in the United States as “The Great Swedish Adventure”).
The show took 10 Americans to Sweden to trace their Swedish ancestry and meet their living relatives.
Weaver will recap her life-changing journey of traveling and meeting family during the pandemic, and share fun behind-the-scenes stories of what it was like to be in a foreign country on a reality TV show.
She will also discuss the library’s genealogical and language resources, and how they helped her get cast on the show.
Earlier this year, Weaver returned to Sweden to celebrate Midsummer with her Swedish family on a small island in the archipelago.
“I am exhilarated to share my ancestry adventure with our community and share how the public library helped me realize a childhood dream to travel to Sweden and meet my family,” Weaver said.
“The power of public libraries never ceases to amaze and my talk will be sure to delight, entertain and, I hope, inspire.”
