Jefferson Land Trust has announced that it has reached its fundraising goals for the Quimper Wildlife Corridor Challenge, raising $3.14 million to protect up to 167 additional acres of the corridor.
In actuality, the land trust raised more than that. An online check of the fundraising initiative by The Leader found that, as of Thursday, Aug. 30, 456 supporters had donated $3,272,924 to the project, surpassing the goal by four percent.
The Quimper Corridor’s acreage provides a wildlife habitat, natural stormwater management and miles of recreational trails.
Financial support from the community enabled the land trust to protect 40 acres in the corridor through 27 separate transactions since 2021. It also provided resources to help facilitate the purchase and permanent protection of 107 acres of forestland that make up Quimper West, Quimper East and Baby Quimper through the Washington Department of Natural Resources’ Trust Land Transfer program to be completed in the coming months, an announcement from the land trust stated.
