Ferry service on the Port Townsend-Coupeville route was canceled Sunday, May 8 due to a shortage of crew, according to Washington State Ferries.
The decision to halt sailings was made Saturday night and followed a challenging day on the route.
Vehicle reservations for travelers leaving Port Townsend were full from the afternoon through 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
The M/V Salish was also behind schedule for much of the afternoon due to high winds and rough seas.
The ferry was between
30 minutes to 45 minutes behind schedule from the 4:15 p.m. sailing from Coupeville until the 9:10 p.m. return from Whidbey Island.
