Port Townsend is due for a spell of king tides this week starting Wednesday.
According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, a king tide is a non-scientific term that refers to an exceptionally high tide, usually experienced during a new or full moon.
Port Townsend is expected to experience a 9.7-foot tide at 5:46 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 13; a 9.7-foot tide at 6:25 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 14 and; a 9.6-foot tide at 7:01 a.m. Friday, Jan. 15.
