He shall not be forgotten…
On March 7 th , 1934, Karl Roderick was born to Frank and Dora Rosbach of Chehalis WA, he was the eighth of nine siblings.
Karl promptly enlisted in the United States Marine Corp after his graduation from Chehalis High School in 1953.
Karl began dating Neva Rose Dorn of Centralia, WA in 1951. The two married October 17 th , 1953, and celebrated nearly 71 years of marriage. Together they have two daughters, Cynthia Susan “Cindy” born May 27th , 1957, and Sandra Jo “Sandy”, born September 6th , 1960.
A few months after their wedding, Karl was deployed overseas to serve in the Korean War. Upon his return to the United States, Karl served as a Sergeant at Camp Pendleton prior to being transferred to the Marine Corp Recruit Depot.
In recognition of his service, he received the National Defense Service Medal, The UN Service Medal, The Korean Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. He was a proud Marine and fully embodied “Once a Marine, always a Marine”.
Following his honorable discharge from the USMC in 1957, he attended Washington State University(WSU) and graduated with a Bachelor of Education in 1961.
Karl taught school throughout Washington State, to include Port Townsend. Teaching afforded him the opportunity to pursue his true passion, coaching youth football. He coached the Port Townsend Junior High School football team alongside his brother Don. Someone once referred to them as the “Bristle Brothers” because of their distinctive crewcuts. Karl took pride in molding young participants into formidable athletes. As a coach, he had a reputation for being strict, demanding, and unyielding. Those who knew him well, knew this was a facade to the sarcastic, entertaining, witty, loveable, and, at times, cantankerous character within.
Karl is survived by wife Neva, daughters Cindy Rosbach of Covington WA, and Sandy (Rick) Rosbach-Newhall of Auburn WA., his grandchildren Michael Roderick Rosbach, Karly Rose Newhall, Ricke Lee Newhall, and Great Grandchild Kemper Philip Rosbach, who all lovingly referred to him as “Papa”.
He is also survived by his sister Jain Rosbach of Chehalis, WA, and a multitude of nieces and nephews, to whom he was affectionately known as “Uncle Snarl”.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, and siblings, Milton, Charles, Francis, Gloria, Donald, Ronald, and Bruce.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM on Aug 17th at Claquato Cemetery 142 Stearns Rd, Chehalis, WA 98532
