I’m 74 years old, which means I’ve been voting in presidential elections for more than 50 years. Mostly Democratic, a
couple Republican. However, this year’s has to be the easiest — by far. There is only one viable candidate: Kamala
Harris. The other is a convicted felon, a criminal. In a country that stands for law and order, how is it possible for a political party to offer up a candidate who has repeatedly broken our laws? What does that say to other countries who are looking/have always looked to the United States for leadership?
And Trump is still facing trials for treason!
Let’s pretend you’re a die-hard Republican. You can accept criminals if they’re Republican. Where is your memory, though? Under Trump, there was a revolving door of senior level advisers, a record number. Some went to prison. He added a record amount of debt, though he promised to balance the budget, to replace Obamacare, to build a wall that Mexico would pay for. He separated children from their mothers and put them in cages. He withdrew from a multi-national treaty to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. His own generals considered him a national security threat, unfit to lead. So much scandal and chaos. This is the man you trust now, again?
Don’t listen to me. Hear what two great Republican politicians have said. Ted Cruz called Trump “utterly amoral” and a sniveling coward.” Lindsay Graham called him a “race-baiting, xenophobic bigot.” Yes, they both flipped and now grovel before him for a chance at keeping/getting power. But their gut, first impressions were consistent.
Still, the election comes down to fitness for the office. After more than 50 years of elections, this year’s is a no-brainer: it’s not a choice. There’s only one viable candidate: Kamala Harris.
