JUMP! seeks helpers to work on playground

Posted

Organizers with the Jefferson Universal Movement Playground, better known as JUMP!, are looking for volunteers to help them erect an all-inclusive playground.

This supervised community build will help JUMP! save money and allow for residents in the area to be a part of the fist-ever playground of its kind in Jefferson County.

The $1.4 million project has been in the works for six years, and will provide visitors with a play space that offers a variety of motor- and multi-sensory experiences for children of differing ages and abilities to enjoy. It will also have accessible surfacing to give parents, friends, or other caregivers who use assistive mobility devices such as walkers, canes, and wheelchairs a place to roll or safely walk to and watch children play.

Organizers first considered the project back in 2016 and broke ground on the playground in May.

Now, organizers need volunteers to help push the project to the finish line and are set to erect multiple structures within the play space on Friday, Aug. 12.

Volunteers can help from either 8 a.m. to noon, or noon to 4 p.m. on Friday.

Potential volunteers must be 18 years or older, capable of lifting heavy items, and need to bring closed-toed shoes.

Folks interested in helping out must email jumpplayground@gmail.com to sign up and receive more details on the community build.
