Jefferson County Sheriff's Log | Take that, you dirty rat

Posted

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office received 369 calls for service between Saturday, March 18 through Friday, March 24. Below are selected reports.

At 12:07 p.m. Thursday, March 23 in Port Ludlow, a woman said a neighbor was shooting at rats.

It’s an ongoing issue, and the woman was concerned because there were children in the neighborhood.

The caller also wanted to determine if it was legal to shoot in the area.

The woman also said West Hemlock Street has a problem with rats because people have been feeding raccoons in the area.

The caller said she was “almost positive” that a person was using a
.22-caliber gun to shoot at the rats.

The woman was advised that the health department was a good contact for the rat issue.

A deputy determined the neighborhood was in a no-shooting zone. The caller said she would talk to the neighbors and may contact the authorities and the health department, but wanted to talk to neighbors first. The woman said she did not want to be an overly intrusive neighbor at this time.

At 5:46 p.m. Thursday, March 23 in Port Hadlock, a locked shop was burglarized.

Someone broke a latch and took a welder, a diesel heater, a chainsaw, and wire.

It appeared multiple items had been removed from the shop over a period of time. The owner promised to make a list of the missing items.

At 10:05 p.m. Thursday, March 23 in Port Ludlow, a woman said she wanted another woman removed from her home. The caller said she just found out that her stepmother was having sex with her husband.

The two women got into a verbal altercation and the woman pushed her stepmother.

A deputy responded and noted it appeared the caller had been suffering from drug-induced psychosis. The woman appeared to be a chronic user of fentanyl.

The woman was given a ride to the sheriff’s office and a friend came and picked her up. Believe in Recovery arranged a room for the night for the woman at a local hotel, and planned to contact her in the morning for help with treatment if she wanted it.
