The Jefferson County Planning Commission will hold a special meeting this week to consider ideas and suggestions on proposed legislation primarily affecting undeveloped parcels on old plats.
The meeting is 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15 and will be held on Zoom and in person at the Tri-Area Community Center, 10 West Valley Road, Chimacum.
According to the county’s Department of Community Development, old plats are illustrations of lots on a map that may not be large enough to accommodate septic or meet the minimum five acre per unit zoning density in rural areas of Jefferson County. The lots (parcels) are frequently identified as non-conforming because of their small size.
Officials said Jefferson County code does not currently have provisions for determining whether a lot of record is a legal lot of record that can be considered legally eligible for development.
The county is considering adding a new chapter to the Unified Development Code that will outline standards for determining the legal status of lots and creates provisions for development of nonconforming parcels.
The special meeting is on Zoom at us02web.zoom.us/j/88671047253?pwd=OU8vTWZGWTVRRGNRVEQ1c2k0WDVadz09.
The meeting ID is 886 7104 7253 and the passcode is 894561.
To help the public better understand the issues surrounding development of these lots, the Department of Community Development has an online portal at co.jefferson.wa.us/586/Public-Notices, and an online story or StoryMap which can be accessed at storymaps.arcgis.com/collections/758d5cb1be024cf482a1862fd857a58b?item=1.
