A new case of COVID-19 in Jefferson County has been found in a woman in her 20s, county health officials reported Thursday.
The woman is a mid-county resident, according to Jefferson County Public Health.
The new positive test for coronavirus increases the total number of COVID-19 cases in Jefferson County to 72.
So far, 38 females have tested positive for COVID, and 34 males have also contracted the disease.
Public health officials said 8,483 patients have been tested for COVID-19 through Oct. 1.
Test results are still pending for 34 patients.
Of the 72 confirmed local cases, 70 patients have recovered from the coronavirus.
Most of the cases of COVID-19 in Jefferson County — 37 — have been found in Port Townsend residents, according to statistics from Jefferson County Public Health.
Seven cases have been discovered in South County residents (Quilcene, Brinnon and also West Jefferson); and 28 cases have been linked to mid-county residents.
Thursday's confirmation of a new COVID infection was the first in Jefferson County since Sept. 14, when a Port Townsend woman in her 70s tested positive.
