Traffic delays are to be expected next week for annual inspections on the State Route 104 Hood Canal Bridge.

A series of annual inspections are scheduled to occur daily between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. starting Monday, Sept. 22, and ending Friday, Oct. 3.

Motorists can expect delays, as the floating bridge is closed to traffic during the multiple openings, according to a press release from the Washington State Department of Transportation.

Numerous daily drawspan openings could be needed for crews to inspect various bridge components. Most drawspan openings are expected to be of short duration, and WSDOT says every effort would be made to minimize impacts to vehicular traffic.

Night drawspan openings are also scheduled for inspections between 10 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1, and 5 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 2.

Hood Canal Bridge connecting Jefferson and Kitsap counties is a primary access route to and from the Quimper and Olympic peninsulas. There are typically more than 9,000 vehicle trips daily across the span.
