Hiker rescued after allergic reaction to wasp stings

Posted

While out on a hike on the Lena Lake trail, a physician saved a man in the midst of a severe allergic reaction to multiple wasp stings with a life-saving EpiPen injection.

The dose from the epinephrine auto-injector gave rescuers the precious time they needed to locate and stabilize the injured hiker.

Emergency responders were already searching for the injured man.

An emergency beacon had been activated and the Brinnon Fire Department was responding alongside the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and Jefferson County & Search Rescue after bystanders on the trail were able to make contact with 911 dispatchers.

The injured man was eventually loaded onto a litter and after several hours of hiking, the crew packed him out to be transported to a local hospital for continued treatment.

He remained in stable condition earlier this week and is expected to fully recover.

Brinnon Fire Chief Tim Manly offered special thanks to the bystanders for their assistance, as well as to all the search-and-rescue members, first responders, and dispatchers.
