A Port Townsend couple was displaced from their home after a fire broke out in their garage early Thursday evening, July 2.
The Jefferson County Fire Investigation Task Force is investigating the cause of the fire.
A neighbor called 911 upon spotting smoke and flames coming from a garage in the 700 block of 41st Street in Port Townsend.
Port Townsend Police Officer Garin Williams arrived on scene and quickly carried a woman, who uses a walker, from the residence.
East Jefferson Fire Rescue (EJFR) was toned at 5:24 p.m. and the first responders arrived on scene at 5:30 p.m. to find the garage fully engulfed.
Some 21 firefighters assisted in suppressing the fire, including those from Port Ludlow Fire and Rescue, Naval Magazine Indian Island, Discovery Bay Volunteer Fire & Rescue and EJFR.
Firefighters trapped the fire within 15 minutes of arriving on scene, and mop-up began at 5:57 p.m.
The American Red Cross responded to help the displaced couple find alternative, temporary housing.
