Fourth death from COVID-19 reported in Jefferson County

A fourth person in Jefferson County has died from COVID-19, according to Jefferson County Public Health.

Details on the death were not immediately available Wednesday.

The coronavirus-related death was the first in Jefferson County since April 19. That patient, a man in his 60s, had been critically ill but would have survived if not for his COVID infection, health officials said at the time.

The total number of COVID-19 infections in Jefferson County since the start of the pandemic rose to 416 Tuesday.

No new cases were reported Wednesday.

Health officials said four people were still in isolation due to potential contact with people with COVID-19.

Officials with Jefferson County Public Health reported a new case of COVID-19 had been confirmed in Jefferson County. A mid-county woman in her 30s tested positive for COVID, according to public health officials.

County health officials said 24,076 local tests for coronavirus have been reported since the start of the pandemic. A total of 23,629 have come back negative.

COVID test results were still pending Wednesday for 31 residents.

According to Jefferson County Public Health, 393 residents have recovered from the coronavirus. That's up from 389 Monday.

People are considered "recovered" at 28 days from the onset of symptoms if they are alive and not hospitalized, according to the state Department of Health.
