A late winter snowfall dumped nearly four inches of snow across Port Townsend and much of Jefferson County this week. High winds arrived on Feb. 25, with PUD reporting more than 2,000 customers without power across north-central parts of the county. Additional outages were reported that day, affecting more than 200 customers along West Valley Road and areas southwest of Chimacum. Snow fell overnight on Feb. 26, and the area remains under a winter storm warning as of this writing. Cold, windy conditions and heavy precipitation are forecast to continue through Thursday. Temperatures continued to drop toward freezing on Tuesday, Feb. 27, with the snow and ice having an impact on travelers, who were advised to stay off the roads unless absolutely necessary. Those who must travel were advised to keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in their vehicles in case of emergency.
