Fort friends will get up close with owls

Posted

“Ambassador Owls and Friendly Woodpeckers” is the theme of this year’s presentation at Friends of Fort Townsend’s annual meeting.

The meeting is planned for 10 a.m. Saturday, April 15 in The Friends Barn at Fort Townsend State Park. The general public is invited to attend.

The guest speaker is Cynthia Daily, director of Discovery Bay Wild Bird Rescue.

Daily, who will be accompanied by several of her ambassador owls, will share the natural history and particular stories of owls and woodpeckers, many of which reside in the park. She has been a rehabilitator for more than 30 years, and she founded the rescue center, a state and federally licensed facility, in Port Townsend in 1994.

Friends of Fort Townsend, a Washington State Parks Friends Group, was started in 2001. Its mission is maintaining trails, educating the public about the flora and fauna found in the park, and keeping alive the history of the Civil War-era fort that existed at the site from 1856 through 1895.

A Discover Pass is required to park at the event.
