Art lovers have a new exhibit to enjoy at Uptown Dental Clinic in Port Townsend. Eleven printmakers affiliated with Corvidae Press will be showing their work through July 6.
The show features colorful and imaginative art prints with varied subject matter, including landscapes, plants, animals, birds, and human figures. Some pieces explore abstract designs or three-dimensional form.
Artists in the show include Lauretta Frost, Jay Haskins, Andrea K. Lawson, Jayne Marek, Peg Masters, Loreen Matsushima, Sharon Schlentner, Darby Smith, Ed Thompson Jr., Margaret Woodcock, and Patricia Zukas. Admission to the exhibit is free.
The physical processes of printmaking often result in “unexpected textures and colors,” Lawson noted.
“It’s inspiring to experiment and create in a supportive environment surrounded by other artists,” the artist added.
The printmaking techniques that are used in the exhibition include etchings made with copper plate, solar plates, and photopolymer plates; linoleum cutting; collagraphy; chine collé and collage; and silkscreening.
The show also includes landscape images by Thompson, a silkscreen artist.
“Inspired by my love of the out-of-doors and a deep appreciation for nature, I seek to capture the spirit and mood of each special place,” he explained.
Corvidae is a nontoxic printmaking studio that was founded in 2006.
Uptown Dental Clinic is located at 642 Harrison St. in Port Townsend. The show can be seen during the clinic’s hours, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
