Elaine R. Shore passed away peacefully in the early hours of Nov. 17, 2021, of a massive heart attack at the age of 89. 

Born in Sumner, Iowa she was adopted at 2 years of age by John and Lelia Thurau. She spent her early years growing up in Des Moines, Iowa, graduating from high school there and then attending Drake University where she received her BS with Honors in Education.

She married Donald L. Shore, a longtime family friend, in 1954. They moved to the Minneapolis-St. Paul area, where Don completed his education at the University of Minnesota in Mechanical Engineering. 

She taught second grade for four years and then raised her family; David, Karen, and Susan. After all her children were in school she returned to the University of Minnesota to obtain her Master’s Degree in Special Education. She returned to the St. Paul School District where she taught special education for 20-plus years, retiring in 1991. She and her husband moved to Kala Point where they spent 29 years of their 67-year marriage. 

Elaine is survived by her husband, three children, one granddaughter, and two great-granddaughters. 

Elaine was active in Kala Point’s Social Plus Committee. She so loved playing Bridge and was active in various groups in the Port Townsend area. She also enjoyed traveling with Don throughout the United States, England, France, the Scandinavian countries, Russia, and all of the Mediterranean. 

A memorial service will be held after the first of the year in Kala Point.
