Driver escapes injury after SUV goes off road

Posted

Quick-thinking bystanders helped prevent a BMW SUV from plummeting down an embankment last week at Pleasant Harbor Marina in Brinnon.

Emergency responders were called after a driver swerved to avoid a squirrel running across the driveway and the BMW became high-centered on a log embankment. The SUV was perched on an embankment that steeply sloped down to another section of the roadway, 25 to 30 feet below.

The mishap happed just after 2 p.m. Monday, April 10, and sheriff’s deputies and responders from the Brinnon Fire Department were called to the scene.

The driver was afraid to get out of the car, Sheriff Joe Nole said, and passersby put a strap around a tree and the BMW to keep it from going over the edge.

The driver was shaken but not hurt.

In a post on social media, Brinnon Fire Chief Tim Manly noted: “After extensive searching, it appears the squirrel was unscathed as well.”

All City Autobody & Towing responded and pulled the vehicle from its perilous perch.

The SUV was not damaged and the husband parked the BMW before the couple returned to their boat.
