As the spring weather begins to heat up, the Discovery Bay Women’s Club’s golf season teed off with a game of “Three Clubs and a Putter.”
Seven club members met up at the Discovery Bay Golf Course on April 6, facing cool and damp weather. While “Three Clubs and a Putter” isn’t a postable scoring game, the ladies had a fun challenge as they dusted off their equipment to begin the season. Cindy Westwood had the low score of the day, followed by new member Meg Fluharty and Sherrilyn Ulland in third.
Following play, 12 ladies attended the first club meeting and a luncheon. Club competitions will continue to be on Thursdays with tee time at 10 a.m. in early spring and 9 a.m. when the weather warms up.
The club’s second outing of the season brought more players out for a three-person scramble.
The teams were well matched as the final scores were all within two strokes of one another.
The first-place team with a net score of of 69 was Wanda Synnestvedt, Cindy Breed, and Jane Guiltinan. Tied for second with a net score of 71 were Barb Aldrich, Dee Sweeney, and Lynn Pierle, with Cindy Westwood, Sherrilyn Ulland and new club member Suzie Piper also scoring 71.
For the last week of April, the women will look forward to an annual club competition: “Beat The Pro.” Jeff Kent — the pro — is always a fun event as the ladies look forward to taking on Kent, who’s given many lessons to the golfers.
