City of Port Townsend to host two open houses for new pool

Posted

The city of Port Townsend will host two open houses this month to hear feedback and share concepts for its Healthier Together Aquatics Center.

There will be two open houses, one in Port Townsend and the other in Chimacum.

The Port Townsend event is set from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 26 at the Fort Worden Commons (210 Battery Way). Chimacum’s open house is 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 27 in the Chimacum High School auditorium.

City staff will discuss the planned pool and recreation center, which is likely to be built on the Mountain View Commons campus on Blaine Street in Port Townsend.

Currently, city staff are in the process of deciding whether to pursue pool funding from a bond vote or by setting up a parks district. Opsis Architecture of Portland, Oregon was hired by the city to design and help develop the new aquatics and wellness facility. The city has also coordinated with local organizations like Jefferson Healthcare, the Port of Port Townsend, and others to aid the process.
