City of Port Townsend OKs on-call engineering contracts

Posted

Due to low staffing capacity in the city of Port Townsend’s engineering department, the city is hiring on-call engineers to provide additional support.

The Port Townsend City Council unanimously approved the move during its Monday, April 17 business meeting.

The city is budgeting $30,000 for two-year contracts with three different engineering firms to aid with specialty services, including geotechnical engineering, surveying, hydraulics, and other needs.

On-call services don’t necessarily equate to more projects being completed, given it requires staff to manage consultants, according to the city.

Currently, the city’s engineering department is down two staff members and has a large project backlog.
