The city of Port Townsend is switching to the cloud as it looks to beef up the financial software systems integral to running the municipality.
The Port Townsend City Council has unanimously approved a resolution to upgrade its financial system and online billing and payment portal.
The tech improvement comes with a cost, as the software switch-up is valued at $50,000 upfront and annual maintenance will cost $17,000.
City staff anticipate the new software will enhance data security, reduce the cost of managing backup servers and on-site equipment, increase overall reliability, and more.
The software isn’t expected to go live until fall.
