Chapman in front in Legislative District 24, Position 1 race | 2022 Primary Election

Mike Chapman is leading the pack in a three-way race for Washington’s Legislative District 24, Position No. 1 seat according to the first vote tally on Election Night for the 2022 Primary Election.

Chapman, the incumbent Democrat, had 60.21 percent of the vote. In second place was Republican candidate Sue Forde who had 27.08 percent of the vote, while Republican Matthew Rainwater had 12.65 percent of the vote.

During the first vote tally Tuesday evening, 34,365 ballots were counted.

The top two finishers in Tuesday’s primary will advance to the General Election in November.

Chapman is a former Clallam County Commissioner and became a state representative in 2017. Chapman also served as a police sergeant and U.S. customs inspector before taking office. 

Forde  has previously served in the Clallam County Home Rule Charter Commission for two terms and has been chair for the Clallam County Republican Party since 2019. 

Rainwater is a former chair of the Clallam County Republican Party and retired from the U.S. Border Patrol in 2021. Rainwater is also an Army veteran. 

According to the initial vote count, Chapman had 20,692 votes, Forde had 9,305 votes, and Rainwater had 4,348 votes as of Tuesday night.
