Mike Chapman has the lead in the race for Washington state’s Legislative District 24, Position No. 1 seat, according to the first vote tally on Election Night for the 2022 General Election.
Chapman, the incumbent Democrat, had 59.35 percent of the vote. Behind him was Republican candidate Sue Forde, who had 40.55 percent of the vote.
During the first vote tally Tuesday evening, 51,214 ballots were counted.
Chapman is a former Clallam County Commissioner and became a state representative in 2017. Chapman also served as a police sergeant and U.S. Customs inspector before taking office.
Forde has previously served in the Clallam County Home Rule Charter Commission for two terms and has been chair for the Clallam County Republican Party since 2019.
According to the initial vote count, Chapman had 30,398 votes while Forde had 20,768 votes.
