Initial election results for Washington’s Legislative District 24, Position No. 1 seat indicate Democrat incumbent Mike Chapman is set for another two-year term with close to 60 percent of the vote.
Chapman reacted to the results, saying, “I am honored and humbled at the strong results tonight. It shows that our hard work throughout the district is respected.”
“Rep. Tharinger and I, along with Senator Van De Wege, will be rolling up our sleeves and heading to Olympia in January to continue working on behalf of the North Olympic Peninsula,” Chapman added.
Chapman garnered 59.35 percent of the vote versus his Republican opponent, Sue Forde, who earned 40.55 percent.
Forde reacted to the initial tally, saying, “I want to thank all those who have volunteered and supported our campaign. We have spent the past months running a grassroots campaign connecting with voters throughout the district.”
“There are still many votes to be counted, and every vote makes a difference. We will continue to watch the results as they come in over the next week as we prepare for next steps,” Forde said.
