Chamber of Jefferson County awards grants

The Chamber of Jefferson County has awarded Community Development Grants to the Jefferson County Farmers Market, Heartberry Cooperative Play School, and Island Kids Preschool through a highly competitive process.

These three businesses stood out in their requests, chamber officials noted.

The purpose of the Community Development program is to facilitate business revitalization, growth and service expansion geared toward long-term sustainability and stimulation of the local economy. Grant funds are to be used exclusively for community assistance programs and program expansion to help awarded businesses and service providers to enhance their ability to serve.

The selected businesses will receive a cash distribution of $2,000, along with a one-year chamber membership or equivalent credit to existing members along with extensive chamber marketing of their success, chamber officials said.

Funds for the grants come through a percentage of each membership investment at the Chamber of Jefferson County.
