Candlelight Concerts hosts an evening with Jim Nyby

Posted

Pianist and singer Jim Nyby will perform at the next Candlelight Concert series at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 29.

Nyby will play one set with no intermission for the online series hosted by Trinity United Methodist Church.

Accompanied only by a Petrof grand piano, Nyby’s set will include a wide variety of selections, from English folk to New Orleans R&B.

“It is a great honor to be asked to perform again at Trinity’s Candlelight Concert,” Nyby said.

“It’s been a strange year for everyone,” he said. “Being deprived of live shows of any kind, I discovered that much of my creative energy is derived from audience reaction.”

Having performed in the area for the past 25 years, Nyby is one of Port Townsend’s musical cornerstones.

Nyby began participating in open mic opportunities around town after moving from the Los Angeles area 30 years ago. Singing and playing piano, he began performing at the Ajax Café on Sunday nights in 2000, which continued for several years.

He’s played in several bands around in town, and now plays saxophone with The Unexpected Brass Band and performs with his own group, The F Street Band.

Listen to his performance at trinityumcpt.org. The concert will also be simulcast on KPTZ FM 91.9.

A portion of the proceeds from the concert will go to Jumping Mouse Children’s Center, an organization that helps children heal through expressive mental health therapy. Find more information at jumpingmouse.org.
