After a Brinnon man’s family in Minnesota became worried about how he was handling the heat wave last week, they called the Brinnon Fire Department to have firefighters check on their elderly father.
Turns out, he was fine and happy to have the impromptu visit.
But emergency responders quickly discovered an earlier visitor had sure made a mess of things.
During their visit, firefighters found garbage strewn about the property, apparently left by a hungry bear looking to dine and dash.
Brinnon Fire Commissioner Justin Matheson returned to the scene with his son Tyler and some garbage bags to clean up the mess.
They also set up a time to return once more in order to help repair the stairs on the man’s front porch later the next week.
“We’re one big happy family,” Brinnon Fire Chief Tim Manly said of the father-and-son duo.
“That’s how we make future firefighters,” he added.
