Road work scheduled for
SR 20 near Discovery Bay
Maintenance crews from the state Department of Transportation are making repairs to the road surface on state Highway 20 between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. July 23-25.
Drivers can expect shifted lanes near the intersection of Highway 20 and U.S. Highway 101 and one-lane alternating traffic on Highway 20 between Moa Hill and Eaglemount roads.
Drivers traveling in the area should expect delays.
More sewer work Masonic Hall
Crews began laying sewer pipe in area two of the Port Hadlock wastewater system, with construction beginning at Masonic Hall Road south and heading north.
Crews will install and weld low-pressure sewer pipe, in addition to trenching, removal of asphalt, clearing and grubbing and pavement restoration.
Motorists can expect some single-lane traffic and traffic delays.
Construction also continues on the wastewater treatment plant.
County officials estimate the sewer plant should be completed by July 2025.
Marine Mammal specialist wanted
The Port Townsend Marine Science Center holds a letter of authorization from NOAA Fisheries West Coast Region, to serve as the Marine Mammal Stranding Network (MMSN) coordinators for East Jefferson County.
The specialist, a seasonal, temporary, part-time, non-exempt (hourly) position, will focus on marine mammal stranding network response and educational outreach to the public. The position is based out of the Port Townsend Marine Science Center.
Qualified applicants should have previous education in marine biology, aquarium science or a related field, experience with animal care in a public research or wildlife facility, experience following protocols and procedures, experience communicating clearly in a variety of settings, and experience working and interacting with all levels and different styles of personalities while maintaining a professional attitude. The pay rate is $18-$20 per hour. This position will average approximately 25-30 hours per week.
