Things are going to get buzzing in Chimacum.
The East Jefferson Beekeepers’ Association (EJBees) will offer a course on bees and beekeeping for beginners, starting Saturday, Feb. 11.
The course will be held at the Chimacum Grange, 9572 Rhody Drive.
Two one-hour classes will be held every other Saturday from Feb. 11 through April 8. The series features 10 classes in all, each featuring a well-illustrated talk with demonstration materials and lively discussion.
Class starts at 11 a.m. Feb. 11, March 11, and April 8, and at 10 a.m Feb. 25 and March 25.
A hands-on apiary visit April 22 will provide practical experience in handling beekeeping tools, equipment, and live bees.
An online version of the course will be available on the blog site at ejbees.com, and will be accessible to members by password. Once posted, the video classes will remain on the blog for the rest of the year as a stand-alone course and for reference or review convenience.
The course is free, but participants must be a member of EJBees to take part.
New members are welcome to join the bee club at the first class meeting on Feb. 11, or earlier by post. Annual membership dues are $24 for individuals, $36 for a family.
