Ballots sent out for 2022 General Election, registration continues until Nov. 8 | 2022 Election

Decision Day is approaching.

Ballots for the 2022 General Election were mailed to local voters Oct. 19, and Jefferson County election officials expected to mail at least 27,317 ballots to qualified voters within the county.

The election is Tuesday, Nov. 8, and residents can still register to vote by mail or online through Oct. 31. In-person registration continues through Nov. 8.

Voters will choose races that include U.S. Senator, U.S. Representative, State Representative, Position 1 and 2, and county races that include assessor, auditor, clerk, county commissioner for District 3, prosecutor/coroner, sheriff, treasurer, district court judge, and PUD Commissioner for District 1. Also on the ballot for residents in Jefferson County Fire Protection District 3, a merger of Port Ludlow Fire & Rescue into East Jefferson Fire Rescue.

A number of candidates for county offices are running unopposed.

Those include Jeff Chapman for assessor; Brenda Huntingford for auditor; Amanda Hamilton for clerk; James M. Kennedy for prosecuting attorney/coroner; Stacie Prada for treasurer; Mindy Walker for District Court Judge, Position No. 1; and Jeff Randall for Public Utility District No. 1, Commissioner District No. 1.

For U.S. Senator, incumbent Sen. Patty Murray (Democratic Party) is facing a challenge from Republican Tiffany Smiley, who is making her first attempt at elected office.

Derek Kilmer is seeking re-election as U.S. Representative in Washington’s 6th District.

The Democratic incumbent is again facing Republican Elizabeth Kreiselmaier, who unsuccessfully sought the seat two years ago.

In statewide races, Democrat Steve Hobbs is running against nonpartisan candidate Julie Anderson for Secretary of State.

Election results are expected to be posted at 8 p.m. on Election Day. Ballots must be postmarked no later than Election Day or placed in an official ballot drop box by 8 p.m.

Ballot drop boxes are located at the Jefferson County Courthouse in Port Townsend, in the back parking lot, in front of the courthouse, and in the Auditor’s Office.

Other drop box locations include Jefferson County Library (in the parking lot at 620 Cedar St., Port Hadlock); the Nordland Fire Department station, 6693 Flagler Road, Nordland; the Quilcene Community Center, 294952 US Highway 101, Quilcene; the Brinnon Community Center, 306144 US Highway 101, Brinnon; the Peninsula Gateway Visitor Center, 93 Beaver Valley Road, Port Ludlow; the Hoh Indian Nation, 2261 Lower Hoh Road, Forks; and the Quinault Indian Nation, in front of the Queets Tribal Office.
