Artist Talk: Charles Emerson - Color & Abstraction

Posted by BIArtMuseum

Join abstract artist Charles Emerson, in conversation with Jenna d’Anna, Senior Manager of Museum Education & Community Engagement, as they chart his course through the L.A. art scene of the 1960s and 70s with the Cool School, Finish Fetish, Light and Space movement artists, and his studies in Venice, Italy on a Fulbright scholarship. They will touch on metaphysics, animism, literary references, and personal history as points of inspiration and discuss his philosophy of color, and how Josef Albers’ color theory influences his luminous paintings and his lasting belief that as artists, “the only thing we ever have to offer is ourselves.” Audience Q&A and reception to follow.
